that allows you to buy on credit and earn rewards at Crate & Barrel stores and online, plus at CB2 and The Land of Nod stores. Our overview / review of the card is below:
The first thing to know about the Crate & Barrel credit card is that it is only accepted at Crate & Barrel, CB2 and The Land of Nod stores. This limited acceptance is a strike against it. You should always think twice about opening a new credit line, because it can hurt your credit rating, especially if your credit history is shaky. Opening a new credit line for a card that can’t be used on a wide basis makes even less sense.
That said, if your credit is good and you are a regular Crate & Barrel shopper, the card offers a basic but fairly generous rewards program. For every $200 you spend at Crate & Barrel, CB2 or The Land of Nod, you get a $20 reward certificate to use toward future purchases. Note that this is not a rebate — you can only use the $20 as a discount when buying more stuff, you don’t get anything back on your purchases. Still, it’s a 10% reward based on your spending, which is pretty generous in the credit card rewards world.
In addition, you will get special offers and discounts sent to you throughout the year as a Crate & Barrel cardholder, and there are also special financing offers available on card purchases of $1000 or more. While this is not totally spelled out online, these offers usually allow you to buy without paying any interest as long as you completely pay off the purchase within 6 months. (If you don’t pay it all off, though, you’ll get charged interest as if it is started accruing on the day you made the purchase, so watch out!)
And the interest rate should definitely be talked about — 27.24%! That is super high, and definitely not worth the rewards you get if you are the type of person who doesn’t pay off your credit card each month. If you ever have months where you don’t pay off your complete balance, don’t get this card — the APR is simply too high to justify it.
