The travel booking site Expedia, in partnership with Citibank, that rewards you for purchases at Expedia and everywhere else, too. See below for our overview / review of your Expedia credit card options.
The first thing to understand is that Expedia has a rewards program called Expedia+ that offers you various discounts and travel upgrades, with you earning more opportunities the more you spend. The Expedia MasterCard cards give you the opportunity to get to the various levels (such as Silver and Gold) quicker, but, frankly, the program is a bit confusing as to what your points are really worth. that doesn’t totally make things clear.
Now, there are :
- The base Expedia+ MasterCard credit card offers you 3 points per dollar spent on Expedia purchases and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. You also get automatic Silver status in the Expedia+ program. If you spend at least $1000 with the card in the first 3 months, you get a bonus 15,000 points that are “redeemable for $200 towards your stay at a +VIP Access™ hotel.” There is no annual fee for this card.
- The Expedia+ Voyager MasterCard gives you more, but has a $95 annual fee, so you’ll have to decide if you’re getting more than you’d get with the no-annual-fee card based on your card spending. This card gives you 4 points per dollar on Expedia purchases, 2 points per dollar on restaurants and entertainment purchases, and 1 point per dollar on everything else. If you travel often, the $100 airline fee credit (for checked bags, in-flight purchases, etc.) will pay for the annual fee., making this a no-brainer choice between the two cards. With this card, you get Gold status in the Expedia+ program. You can also earn 25,000 bonus points if you use the card for at least $2000 in purchases within the first 3 months.
Overall, we can only recommend getting one of these Expedia credit cards if you are a frequent traveler who already has a certain loyalty to buying through Expedia. If you don’t have that loyalty, there’s no need to change your behavior — instead look at one of the many other travel credit cards or airline credit cards on the market that better matches your usual travel purchase patterns.
