ExxonMobil offers 2 main credit cards via Citibank — a consumer and commercial version — that will have some interest for frequent buyers at Exxon and Mobil gas stations. Our overview / review of the Exxon Mobil credit cards is below:
The first thing to know about ExxonMobil credit cards is that they can only be used at Exxon and Mobil stations, nowhere else. This limited usage is a red flag for us — unless this card really provides some nice benefits, you don’t want to open a new credit line just for it.
Does it offer really nice benefits? If you’re a very frequent user, it could. Here’s the rundown on each card:
- The is the consumer credit card. It offers you a 6-cent-per-gallon rebate on Exxon & Mobil gas, regardless of how much gas you buy. A decent deal, but watch out for this card’s 25.24% interest rate. If you ever carry a balance, you’ll probably end up paying more in interest than you ever get in gas discounts.
- The also offers a 6-cent-per-gallon discount, but has a different/worse formula. First, it’s only for the first 12 billing cycles, then it appears to go away completely. Second, you must purchase at least 100 gallons of Exxon and/or Mobil gas in a month to get any rebate, but you only get the rebate on any gallons you buy AFTER the first 100. So, you get the rebate on the 101st gallon and every gallon up to the 800th gallon. If you’re having trouble wrapping your head around that math, you can get a 6-cent-per-gas rebate on up to 700 gallons of gas, for a maximum rebate of $42 per month. This card also has a very high 23% interest rate. If your business needs a gas credit card and Exxon and Mobile are the stations nearest where you do business, you could get this card for the convenience, but the rewards are small and go away too quickly.
While we can’t really recommend either card, you’ll find .
