Marvel Entertainment, in partnership with Synchrony Financial, you can use to earn Marvel rewards as well as other reward options. Is it a superhero in today’s credit card world? Our overview / review of the Marvel credit card is below:
The first thing to consider is that the Marvel credit card is a MasterCard, meaning that it can be used wherever MasterCard is accepted, which is just about everywhere credit cards are accepted. This wide acceptance is a plus — some specialty credit cards tie to you a particular retailer or brand; this one does not.
It does offer a reward scheme that encourages you to buy Marvel products and services, though. Here’s how you earn with the Marvel MasterCard:
- Get 3% cash back on most dining and entertainment purchases, including purchases on Marvel.com and at Marvel Official Merchandise Booths
- Get 1% cash back on all other purchases.
- Get a one-time $25 bonus statement credit after you use the card for the first time.
In addition, you get Marvel perks including 10% off purchases and free shipping offers at MarvelShop.com.
There is no annual fee for the Marvel credit card, and it offers 3 interest rate tiers depending on your credit history — you could be approved at a 15.24% rate, a 20.24% rate, or a 25.24% rate. The 15.24% rate isn’t bad at all, but the rates above 20% are terrible, so if you ever carry a balance on your credit cards you’ll want to steer clear if you can only get approved at the higher rates. (In truth, carrying a balance on this card at any of these interest rates will cause the interest you pay to essentially cancel out the rebates you receive.)
Overall, the Marvel MasterCard is a decent credit card for the most rabid Marvel fans, people who love Marvel and who spend a lot of money on Marvel products as well as on eating out and watching movies, gaming, etc. However, for most people the cash back they’d receive with this card is probably less than they’d earn on one of the top cash back credit cards on the market, including several cards that give 1.5% – 2% rebates on all purchases.
If you are a crazy Marvel head, though, we don’t want to dissuade you. You can apply for the Marvel MasterCard via .
