Travel site Orbitz, in partnership with Comenity Capital Bank, that lets you earn “Orbucks” reward points on every purchase. If Orbitz is your go-to travel booking site, getting this card will make perfect sense. Our overview / review of the Orbitz Visa is below:
The Orbitz Rewards Visa is a complement to the existing Orbitz Rewards program, which gives a percentage of your Orbitz purchases back to you in the form of “Orbucks,” which can be redeemed toward future hotel bookings on Orbitz. That program offers you Orbucks reward points to the tune of a 3%-5% reward on hotels booked through Orbitz, and 1% per dollar on airfare and vacation packages, plus opportunities to earn other rewards.
The Orbitz credit card jacks up those rewards. You get:
- a 5% extra reward on all hotel and flight bookings through Orbitz
- a 2% reward on all other purchases with the card, including purchases outside of Orbitz.
You can also get a one-time $100 statement credit if you use the card for at least $1500 in purchases within the first 90 days of having it.
Overall, it’s a nice program for people that already use Orbitz or are looking for a generous travel rewards program. The one downside is that your earned points can only be redeemed for hotel stays booked through Orbitz. You can not use them for flights, so if you wanted to book just a flight because you are staying in a vacation rental or other non-hotel accommodations, you wouldn’t be able to use your points. This is something to consider.
The Orbitz credit card has no annual fee and has no foreign transaction fees that many other cards charge when you use them outside of the U.S. The interest rate on the card could be 16.24% at the low end, but as high as 25.24% if your credit isn’t so good. Don’t get the card if you’re planning on carrying a balance, or the interest you pay will essentially cancel out the rewards you receive.
