Sunglass Hut, in partnership with Synchrony Bank, with a nice initial discount but little else to recommend it. Our overview / review of the Sunglass Hut credit card is below:
The first thing to understand about the Sunglass Hut credit card is that it is only accepted at Sunglass Hut, nowhere else. This limited acceptance is a definite strike against it — do you really want to open a new credit line only for sunglasses from a single retailer? Having too many open credit lines can hurt your credit score, especially if your credit history is shaky.
There are two reasons you might want this card, however:
- You get 20% off your first purchase with the card, meaning you can apply, get instant approval, and save 20% off a pair of sunglasses you want to buy today.
- You may want to use the six-month financing offered to cardholders to finance your purchase, usually at a 0% rate.
Be careful of using that financing, though. While Sunglass Hut does not offer details online, these types of offers are usually “deferred financing,” meaning that if you don’t pay off the complete purchase within the 6-month timeframe, you will get charge ALL of the interest that would’ve accrued from the date you made the purchase, as if the 0% offer had never even existed!
And you don’t want to be paying any interest at this card’s terrible rate: 29.99%!!!!
The Sunglass Hut credit card does not offer any ongoing rewards program, though you may get some discounts specific to cardholders from time to time.
Overall, we would tell consumers with excellent credit to get the card for the quick 20% discount on a pair of new shades, pay off the purchase and then put the card on ice. If you don’t have great credit, we recommend you steer clear. You can find the .
