The Wyndham Hotel Group, in partnership with Barclays Bank, for travelers who want to earn Wyndham Rewards points on their credit card purchases. Our overview / review of the cards is below:
First, you should know that the Wyndham Hotel Group includes not only Wyndham but also chains such as Ramada, Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Travelodge, Knights Inn, Planet Hollywood resorts, Knights Inn and more. When you use your card at these hotels or other places you earn rewards points toward future stays.
Before we talk about the cards, a word about the Wyndham Rewards program. This program has a feature we really like — unlike many hotel reward programs that have different point totals for free nights depending on the property (high-end hotels require more points), you can book any Wyndham hotel for 15,000 points per night. This makes it very easy to understand the value of your points, and makes it easy to understand when you’ve earned a free night. (You also have the option at many hotels to use 3,000 points and pay a reduced per-night rate.)
Now, about the cards. The cards differ in rewards based on your willingness to pay an annual fee for the card:
- The offers 3 points per dollar on Wyndham hotel stays, and 2 points per dollar on all other card purchases, plus 15,000 bonus points after you use the card for the first time (worth 1 free hotel night at any Wyndham hotel, any time).
- The offers you a bit more: 5 points per dollar on Wyndham purchases and 2 points everywhere else, and 30,000 bonus points after your first card purchase. You’ll also get 6000 free points each year on the anniversary of your account opening.
Otherwise, the cards are the same, offering an interest rate of 15.24% or 19.99%. Which card you choose will probably depend on how often you stay at Wyndham Group hotels, because the biggest perk of the $69-fee Visa is its increased points on Wyndham purchases (though the bonus points are good, too).
